Collector interest is starting to pick up for Haitian coins. Preparing this appraisal, I notice that the catalog values are lagging the prices these coins are selling for on eBay and in other places on the open market. Coin collectors call such coins sleepers. Hope you have a good one!
Condition is the most important factor with any coin from Haiti. If you can find one in good shape, you have found something. Most of them are very heavily worn. The sample in our picture is in well preserved condition.
Even in worn condition, however, these coins are worth at least their weight in silver. Go to kitco.com and find the current selling price of silver, specified in US dollars per troy ounce. To find the silver value (or base value, or bullion value, BV) of your coin, multiply its silver content by the price of silver. Coins which are in good condition are worth more than BV, as shown below.
