Before the German Empire congealed under Otto Von Bismark in 1871, the German Federation was composed of a collection of independent states and cities that each issued their own coinage. Sachsen is Saxony, located in the southeastern part of present-day Germany, and they minted 1, 2, and 5 pfennig coins in copper with the interesting shield pattern you describe between 1862 and 1873.
These coins carry decent collector value today, especially in high grades, as outlined below. All the dates and mint marks are approximately equal in value, as are all the denominations (i.e., it does not make a difference if you have a 1, 2, or 5 pfennig coin, these values apply).
