Spielgeld means 'play money' and, although they were used as legal tender in inflation-prone Germany starting in 1923, they were essentially worthless. Children's games were their primary usage.
Spielgeld come in many shapes, sizes, and denominations. Most are low value in collector's eyes, unless they are extremely well preserved.
It is always difficult to estimate values for non-coin tokens like this, because there is not a large collector following. Some general guidance, regardless of denomination, runs like this:
worn: $2 US dollar approximate catalog value
average circulated: $4
well preserved: $15
fully uncirculated: $50
If you go to our favorite site for German coins, MA-Shops.com, and do a search on 'spielgeld', you will see an array of these items for sale in this $10 to $30 range. Remember, if you have an item to sell to a coin dealer, and he or she expects to sell it for $X to a collector, you will usually get one-half X or less in dealer payment.
