This page applies to silver 1 (penny), 2, 3, and 4 pence coins. There are copper pennies as well, but these coins are silver and have been minted as such for a long time. They usually appear in special sets and are worthwhile only in uncirculated, or nearly uncirculated condition.
The denomination side, with crowned and wreathed 1, 2, 3, and 4 does not change. The monarch side changes as follows:
1685 to 1688, James II
1689 to 1694, William and Mary
1690 to 1702, William III
1702 to 1714, Anne
1715 to 1727, George I
1728 to 1760, George II
1761 to 1820, George III
1821 to 1830, George IV
1831 to 1837, William IV
1838 to 1901, Victoria
1902 to 1910, Edward VII
1911 to 1936, George V
1937 to 1952, George VI
1953 to date, Elizabeth II
Not many of these coins were minted, but enough to satisfy low collector demand for single coins (see more info below). The summaries which follow give approximate catalog values.

If you have all four denominations in uncirculated condition and with the same date, you probably have a 'Maundy Set.' These sets are quite valuable. See this CoinQuest page for pictures and values of Maundy Sets.
