Fiji Shilling 1934 to 1965

Fiji Shilling 1934 to 1965

Fiji minted their shillings in silver until 1943. After that it was copper-nickel. Coins dated 1934 to 1941 contain 0.091 troy ounces of silver. Coins dated 1942 and 1943 contain 0.164 ounces. Use a web site such as kitco.com to find the current price of silver per troy ounce.

The bust of the reigning British monarch appears on the obverse ('heads' side) while a cool outrigger canoe shows on the reverse.

As usual, modern coins are worth face value unless they are in splendid, fully uncirculated condition. If you have an uncirculated example, a collector might pay a few US dollars to add it to his or her collection.

The exception is the very earliest issues from 1934, 1935 and 1936, which have a decent collectible value given that the coins are in pristine condition. Uncirculated examples from these years catalog at $70.
