These are skilling coins of King Christian VI of Denmark. Many of these old coins sport elaborate monograms of the prominant monarch, and the pattern here is the 'double C6' pattern of Christian VI. For coins in good numismatic (coin collector) condition, like the one in our picture from Strandbergs, Mynthandel and Aktiesamlaren in Stockholm, they can be quite valuable.
The tables below give approximate catalog values for these coins. Remember:
NEVER CLEAN A COIN. CLEANING RUINS VALUE.
1/2 SKILLING, 23 mm diameter
worn: $20
average circulated: $120
well preserved: $300
1 SKILLING, 27 mm diameter
worn: $25
average circulated: $120
well preserved: $350
24 SKILLING, 29 mm diameter
worn: $50
average circulated: $160
well preserved: $300
24 skillings dated 1732, 1735, and 1740 are somewhat more valuable; multiply these values by two
Do not forget that the values quoted above are approximations, and they represent inflated catalog values. To convert catalog value to actual value, use our Terminology page.
CoinQuest thanks Strandbergs, Mynthandel and Aktiesamlaren for use of their coin image.
