These Canadian silver 5 and 10 cent pieces can be quite valuable if they are old and in good condition. Most of the Victoria examples you see are worn to a frazzle. Later coins, with Edward VII and George V, are somewhat less valuable. Canadian coins show the portrait of the reigning British king or queen, so your coin may not look precisely like our picture.
1858 to 1901: VICTORIA
1902 to 1910: EDWARD VII
1911 to 1936: GEORGE V
The 5 cent coin changed to nickel in 1922, with a different design. Until then, it was made of silver:
5 CENTS, 1858 to 1922: 0.035 troy ounces silver
10 CENTS, 1858 to 1936: 0.070 ounces silver
