Great Britain Farthing and Half Penny (George II) 1729 to 1754

Great Britain Farthing and Half Penny (George II) 1729 to 1754

These old copper coins come during the reign of George II (1727 to 1760). The farthing and half penny look virtually identical except for size. The coin in our photo comes from our favoite web site about farthings called (what else?) AboutFarthings where it is on sale for $32 pounds, about $52 US dollars. The coin is worn, but it has no scratches, spots, gouges, stains, or other similar damage, and it has not been cleaned. This makes it a valuable old coin.

The lists below call out approximate catalog values for copper farthings and half pennies. The full penny was so valuable in the mid 1700s, they were minted in silver! Be sure to apply the concepts on our Terminology page.

FARTHING (25 mm diameter)
worn: $10 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated (like our picture): $80
well preserved: $350

HALF PENNY (29 mm diameter)
worn: $10 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated (like our picture): $100
well preserved: $450
