One neat thing about collecting medals is that medals do not usually see circulation, so they do not become worn like coins do. The British volunteer medal in our picture comes from P and D Medallions in Hertfordshire, UK, where it sold recently for 125 British pounds, about $200 US dollars. It is in gorgeous condition, which adds dramatically to its value.
Rachael's medal, as described, does not have much wear, but it has nicks or gouges. This will lower value substantially, probably down well below $100.
Remember, also, that if you want to sell your medal to a respectable dealer, the dealer will probably offer you one-half of retail value or less. This is standard mark-up for wholesale transactions and is necessary to keep the dealership afloat.
CoinQuest thanks P and D Medallions for use of their image. It is a beauty!
