New Zealand 6 Pence 1933 to 1965

New Zealand 6 Pence 1933 to 1965

That's a Huia Bird, Tyler, on the back. These coins come with George V, George VI, and Elizabeth II on the front.

Six pence coins from New Zealand can be valuable, but only in special cases. The modern ones, after 1946, are made of copper-nickel. Before 1947 there is a small amount of silver (0.0465 troy ounces) in each coin.

A 1957 no shoulder strap (see picture) catalogs for $17 in average circulated condition and $400 in fully uncirculated condition

In general, coins with Queen Elizabeth without a shoulder strap are worth more than coins with a shoulder strap. The 1957 date is the most valuable of the strapless variety.

As always, CoinQuest quotes catalog value and you must convert these values to actual buy and sell values, which are lower. See our Terminology page for an explanation.
