Most of the states of the northern and western region of Africa are now free independent nations i.e., Benin, Senegai, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Togo, Niger, Guinea-Bissau, but until recently much of the region was under French and British rule.
Although relatively modern and made of copper-nickel and nickel-brass, several of these coins carry decent collector value when in good condition. Here are lists of approximate catalog values. Earlier coins contain the likeness of King George V and later coins contain the likeness of Queen Elizabeth II. Coins after 1939 are worth much less -- about one-third the values shown below.
