The Canadian Confederation formed in 1867. Before that, token coinage was issued by variout banks to support commerce. There are many patterns, this one showing a bank building and an oval insignia. Denominations are sou (one half penny) and 2 sous (penny).
Collectors seek nice-looking specimens of these neat old coins. Typical catalog values for all dates (except below) run like this:
worn: $3 US dollars approximate catalog value
average circulated (like our picture): $15
well preserved: $100
fully uncirculated: $175

Just about every one of these tokens carries values as shown above. The catalogs report, however, two rare tokens:
