I really like the coin in our picture. It comes from Munzenhandlung Brom in Berlin, where it is on sale for 35 euros (about $45 US dollars). That price gives an idea of value for these coins, but there are several variations. Please read further.
King Franz Joseph (Franc Ios) the first (I) of Austria ruled from 1848 to 1916. With such a long reign, many coins were struck with his likeness, some as a young man, some older. Further, there are several denominations of silver and gold coins with Franz Joseph's likeness, and they all have the double-headed imperial eagle on the reverse. This page applies to silver coins with denominations 1/4, 1, and 2 florins (denoted 1/4FL, 1FL, and 2FL on the reverse 'tails side' of the coins). Other coins have different inscriptions. Sometimes a florin is called a gulden; they are the same denomination. There are also Franz Joseph silver coins with numerals 10 and 20 on the eagle side. These are kreuzers, also described on this page.
With the shaky world economy, gold and silver are becoming more and more valuable. Here are the silver contents for these coins. Their value cannot be lower than the silver content, even if damaged or worn to a frazzle:
10 KREUZER: 0.021 troy ounces silver
20 KREUZER: 0.043 ounces silver
1/4 FLORIN: 0.089 ounces
1 FLORIN: 0.357 ounces
2 FLORIN: 0.714 ounces
